DNO/DMO (Designated Nursing/Medical Officer)

Role-based HTM02-01 DNO/DMO medical gas training for clinical staff responsible for supporting safe MGPS operation in clinical areas. Covers alarm response, isolations awareness, basic system understanding, and working effectively with the AP/engineering teams during routine and emergency situations.​

Course Format

  • Duration: 1/2 day or 2 courses in one day

  • Delivery Options:

    • Bespoke on-site sessions for clinical teams

  • Class Size: Typically 1–15 delegates

  • Training Style:

    • Focused classroom instruction

    • Scenario-based practical discussion

    • Real-world alarm response exercises​

Course Content

The DNO/DMO training programme equips senior nursing and clinical staff with essential awareness and response capability in relation to MGPS systems, including:

​

  • MGPS basic principles

  • MGPS roles and responsibilities

  • MGPS equipment requirements: correct use and capacity checks before purchase

  • PTW and permissions: PTW, interruptions, contingency planning, permission to work, “Do not use” plugs

  • Emergency situations: alarm indications, emergency isolations, fault reporting

  • MGPS operational policy

  • AGSS: principles, operation and safety

  • Practical: isolation of AVSUs

  • Practical: PTW exercise including temporary supply requirements

  • Practical: local piped system appraisal and cylinder storage

Course content is delivered through clear explanation, guided discussion, and practical examples that reflect typical clinical scenarios.

Assessment & Certification

To confirm understanding of key course principles and response expectations:

  • Assessment Format: Knowledge verification through discussion-led review

  • Outcome: Confirmation of understanding of MGPS awareness and safe response practices

​

Delegates who complete the training receive a Designated Nursing Officer (MGPS) Training Certificate, demonstrating their preparedness to support safe MGPS operations in clinical settings.
