Authorising Engineer (AE) & Authorised person (AP) Services
Authorising Engineer (AE) Services (MGPS)

Your Authorising Engineer (MGPS) provides independent oversight of your MGPS management arrangements and supports the safe, compliant appointment and ongoing assurance of your Authorised Person(s). We work with your senior team and your APs to strengthen governance, check that controls and documentation are in place, and provide pragmatic technical support when decisions need to be made.
What our AE support typically includes
-
Start-up review / baseline assessment – a structured site visit at the outset to understand your systems, documentation, permit arrangements, contractor interfaces and existing management controls, followed by a clear written summary with actions and priorities.
-
AP assessment and appointment support – planned time on site with the Lead/Senior AP and each AP to review competence, training evidence, familiarity with the site and “what if” decision-making. We then provide written feedback and a recommendation for executive sign-off where appropriate.
-
Annual review / governance audit – an annual check of your MGPS arrangements to confirm procedures, records and system controls remain effective, with a concise report highlighting improvements and any emerging risks.
-
Ongoing technical advice – access to AE input by phone/email within agreed timescales for day-to-day queries, interpretation of guidance, and support during change (projects, role changes, contractor transitions, incident follow-up).
-
Additional AE input when needed – extra days can be called on for project meetings, design/verification reviews, shutdown planning, committee attendance, or specific problem-solving.

Authorised Person (AP) Services (MGPS)

Our AP (MGPS) support is designed for sites that want strong control of their MGPS without needing a full-time, on-site AP. It suits non-acute and community settings, smaller hospitals, and hospices—while also being useful as short-term cover during leave, recruitment, or when developing new APs.
We can provide remote AP cover, holding the key site MGPS information needed to support safe decisions and consistent control. Your on-site team remains involved, and we can help you build local capability so day-to-day activity is managed efficiently and safely.
What our AP support typically includes
-
Initial site health-check – a first visit to review the system, ways of working and key documentation, with a practical action list where improvements are needed.
-
Permit-to-work support and control – guidance on safe systems of work and permit use, helping your team apply controls consistently and confidently (with clear boundaries on what can be managed locally).
-
Developing local capability – support for nominated staff who assist with routine control of the system, so you have resilience on site and clear escalation routes.
-
Access to advice within agreed timescales – telephone/email support during working hours for operational queries, emerging issues and decision-making support.
-
Planned attendance when required – attendance can be arranged for higher-risk work, shutdowns, project supervision, or critical stages such as commissioning and handover.

We keep our approach straightforward: clear boundaries, tidy documentation, and support that fits how your site actually runs. Whether you need long-term cover or short-term help during change, we’ll agree a sensible level of involvement and response times from day one.
